SMITHFIELD'S NEW AQUATICS CENTER
This is the architect's rendering of the building now under construction at Smithfield Community Park next to Smithfield-Selma High School. A fund-raising campaign is supplementing appropriations from the Johnston County Board of Education and the Town of Smithfield to construct a fully equipped "Recreation and Aquatics Center."

FOR MAY 5.3%

DOWN 27% IN FEB.
According to the N.C. Dept. of Revenue, taxable retail sales in Johnston County in Feb. '08 totaled $72.7 million - down 27% from $99.9 million a year earlier. Sales in Smithfield: $21.1 million in Feb. '08 - down 31% from $30.6 million in Feb. '07. For monthly reports going back 10 years, click here.
